THE VIRGIN’S SECRET Victoria Alexander Avon ISBN: 978-0-06-144947-5 May 2009 Historical Romance
Gabriella Montini is in search of an ancient seal that once belonged to her brother, Enrico. Finding the seal would accomplish two things, give credit to her brother for the discovery, albeit, posthumously, but credit nonetheless; two, destroy the men responsible for its theft, the Harrington brothers.
Nathanial Harrington and his brother Quinton are no strangers to the world of treasure hunting or danger. The two are often gallivanting around the world in search of ancient artifacts or other questionable activities. Both are aware of Enrico Montini’s reputation and are surprised to discover he has a sister, a very beautiful one.
Gabriella decides the best way to determine the Harrington’s involvement is by breaking into their house. Things are going well, until she is caught by their younger sister and soon after, Nathanial Harrington himself. Definitely, a sticky situation Gabriella is preparing herself for the worst. After significant discussions among the family, it is determined that she will move into Harrington House so that the seal’s location can be found without a possible scandal. Having Gabriella underfoot poses a big problem for Nate, yet he finds her intelligence attractive and beauty tempting. During the course of their association, Gabriella and Nate will find themselves looking for something other than the seal. Gabriella has never truly been a part of a family and is envious of the relationship between Nate and his. Nate discovers that his feelings for her go deeper than simple lust and found a priceless treasure in Gabriella.
Readers will enjoy the first book of Ms. Alexander’s new series; I particularly liked the dialogue between all the characters and the way in which Gabriella did not become a simpering Miss. She accomplished her goal and in the end received so much more. Readers should know that this title is related to THE PERFECT WIFE. The next in this series is not out until 2010, happy reading.
