Paranormal Romance
Mia Sauter, a forensic accountant, is working undercover to investigate Micor Technologies for embezzlement. In doing so, she has finally found the man that had betrayed her a year ago, Addison Foster. Only now he is Thomas Strong, director of Human Resouces at Micor Technologies. A year ago, Addison/Thomas had promised to help her, but instead, he betrayed her. Seeing him again didn't prepare her for what she going to discover about him.
Thomas Strong was just another name Soren used in his quest to discover the labratory he'd been tracking that had been experiementing on humans. He was a man of many different alias, having slipped in and out of identities as the need arose. With his own daughter lying in a coma, Soren felt nothing. Having had his uncanny ability to transform another's thoughts into a distant layer of their desires with just a touch, he wasn't prepared for Mia's ability to see through him. Try as he might, she was immune to his special ability and that touched him in deep dark places that he thought long dead.
Inside this laboratory, Dr. Rowan is experimenting on humans that possess any special abilities. When his experiments go awry, he expends the humans with little more than remorse for his time lost. One subject in particular, who has the ability to heal others' sickenesses has captured his attentions and imaginations - fancying that she is all his and waiting for the day they can be together. In truth, Gillie is waiting, for the day she will have the chance to leave. One day, she meets another subject, Taye, who has a plan.
Soren and Mia will use every resource it takes to bring the system down - even if it means gambling their very lives.
This is the first book I have read of Ms. Gray's, and I feel that I should have the first in this series - SKIN GAME. However, this book can be read as a stand alone once you get into the book enough to figure out what is going on. The interaction with Mia and Soren was sizzling and kept the interest up unti that point. The further into the book I went, the more interesting the characters became. The evil doctor was a mad scientist in love with his "creation", Gillie. Stopping at nothing or no one, he reeked of psychotic behavior and was a great anti-hero. Soren's ability and his deep scars presented a tortured hero aspect and with Mia there to believe in him, well, it just makes for great romance. I recommend reading SKIN GAME first before getting into this series and perhaps SKIN TIGHT will fall neater into place.
