Maggie Pickwick has left her cheerleader days, and the mean ways that went along with it, behind in high school. Getting pregnant her senior year, with no one to help, she turns to God to find meaning in her life. The arrival of Devyn and raising her is providing more meaning for Maggie than anything else. Everything is running smoothly, when all of a sudden Reece Thorpe shows up in town.

Renowned artist Reece Thorpe arrives in town to sculpt a monument for her restitution-providing, maybe-crazy uncle Obadiah Pickwick. But the problem with his return is that Maggie used to have a relationship with him in high school before things went sour and he just might be Devyn’s father. With Devyn pushing to know her paternity and trying to find good father/husband material, Maggie finds herself between a rock and a hard place. Will she come to realize that the truth is the best weapon against all attacks or will she cover up her past to try and create an exciting future?

Tamara Leigh has never disappointed my story tasting buds and I must say that this story was a treat. The second book in this series continues with the characters that were introduced in the first. Even though some characters are eccentric, they are all very lovable. And so I enjoyed revisiting Pickwick. The only thing I would discourage is reading the series out of order or reading this novel as a stand alone since it is a bit difficult to keep all the characters straight. Otherwise, the story was fast-paced, kept me laughing and crying. And I am definitely looking forward to the next cousin’s story. If you have never read Tamara Leigh, give her books a try. You won’t be disappointed!
