Tori Carrington offers up the first book in a new series from Harlequin Blaze, called “Dangerous Liaisons”. POSSESSION starts out with Bayou-born Claude Lafitte engaging in a one night stand with a beautiful woman in a hotel in New Orleans. A charming, handsome rogue who goes through women like water, Claude thoroughly enjoys Claire while knowing very little about her. The story gets good when he goes out for coffee the next morning and comes back to the hotel to a dead body. Claude is immediately the prime suspect in the murder.

Chased by the police, he inadvertently runs into FBI Agent, Akela Brooks, who has come home to her monied family after her marriage fails. She wants her daughter to know her grandparents. Claude impulsively takes her hostage and they travel deep into the bayou to avoid capture. Their story as a couple begins here and starts to get steamy when Akela realizes her intense attraction to Claude is mutual. Totally inappropriate for both of them, they nonetheless begin to forge a relationship. To say more of the story would be to give it away. And I never want to do that!

This is a classic Tori Carrington tale. It has all the wonderful elements of category romance with handsome, interesting characters, a “bad boy”, a “good girl”, meddling parents, meddling brothers, and emotional and familial baggage galore. The sex is steamy and provocative, woven nicely into the reader’s understanding of the characters.

In trademark style, the author gives us insight into why Claude and Akela act the way they do and takes the reader through their attempts to figure out exactly what they mean to each other. A quick and satisfying read, this book will appeal to all fans of Tori Carrington and future books in the series, if as good as this one, will be something to anticipate.
