 Romantic Suspense

Kat Buckingham is a workaholic criminal defense lawyer who works hard to get her clients fair trials.  She is engaged to James Smith and lives in Washington, DC in a pricey Georgetown townhouse.  Left alone as a young adult, when her parents are killed in a car accident, she has no family ties.  While readers might wonder how this all fits with the McCoy brothers and their father Sean, it quickly becomes apparent that Kat’s life is about to turn upside down in both good and bad ways.

U.S. Marshall Harry Kincaid has been watching Kat and her fiancé for a long time.  Kat doesn’t know that James is in the witness relocation program and Harry is fascinated by Kat and her life with James.  This all comes crashing down, early in the book, when James is murdered in their kitchen.  Kat is accused of killing him and is briefly incarcerated.  While in jail she meets Sean McCoy, who informs her that he is her biological father and that she has five older brothers.  Soon after, Harry manages to get her assigned to a witness protection program and she leaves jail under his protection.

Kat, whose full name is Kathryn, named after her mother, who died in childbirth, gets caught up in the evil web surrounding James Smith, aka Darin Ichatious, who has used Kat in more ways than one.  Someone is trying to kill Kat and Harry is determined to protect her.  He enlists the assistance of her five brothers and father and the story continues from here.

This is a wonderful stand alone novel but was oh so, satisfying to this long-term Carrington fan since I got to read about those terrific McCoy brothers, and their wives and children in the course of reading Kat’s story.  Tori Carrington paid particular attention to character detail in all the McCoy brothers’ books and this was meticulously carried through in this latest installment.

I really loved this book.  The characters were presented with depth and emotion and the relationship between Kat and Harry evolved in a realistic, romantic, sensuous manner.  I was sad to see this book end but was pleased to read a small short story by the Tori Carringtons at the end of the novel, as part of the Signature Select book series.

Once again, these talented authors have given us a wonderful romance, filled with lots of suspense and realistically presented relationships with endearing characters.  This book is really one of their best!
