Mystery
Cassidy McCabe is in her late thirties, divorced, and makes barely enough money as a psychotherapist to survive. While it
does not sound like a fascinating life, she manages to remain positive and upbeat, until things seem to fall apart. Her ex-husband owes money to the mob, and they are convinced Cassidy is hiding him. Her attempts to ignore them fall short, as
they are watching her house.
Cassidy’s home life is also changed when a stray cat arrives at her door with little intention on leaving. Cassidy is certainly
not a cat lover, nor does she want the expense of another mouth to feed. Nevertheless, how can she turn her back on a charming, manipulative cat with dazzling eyes?
Next her favorite patient commits suicide. Cassidy is shocked that she did not see any signs, but things take a turn for the
worse when the family files a malpractice suit—her malpractice insurance lapsed, now she is facing possible bankruptcy. The
victim’s younger brother, Zachary Moran, announces that he is not convinced it was a suicide. Zach would like Cassidy’s help
to investigate who could have murdered his estranged brother. That proves to be a major undertaking, since the family virtually
disowned Zach years ago.
As Cassidy works her way closer to pointing out a dangerous murderer, will she live to tell about it? Also her love life is
heating up rapidly with Zach, is he another disastrous fraud or could he be the real thing?
The first book in the Cassidy McCabe series, SECRET’S SHADOW lured me in with its fast pace, delightful cast of human and feline characters, and unsettling narrative. Readers can easily relate to Cassidy with her extensive list of financial woes
and various other problems. Humorous moments break the tension and deliver a marvelous mystery that kept me riveted until the shocking conclusion.
For an upbeat, compelling mystery, pick up a copy of SECRET’S SHADOW, curl up in your favorite spot and enjoy! |
