Welcome to the fourth installment of the
Cassidy McCabe Mystery series.
To date, WANTON’S WEB is now my favorite of the series.
While each of these books works well as a stand alone, I
feel readers would be amiss, if they miss any of this wonderful
series! Watching
Cassidy and Zach’s relationship steadily grow will intrigue
fans of romantic suspense, plus the mysteries are well developed
and chilling.
Cassidy and Zach are planning a wedding!
Cassidy still is hesitant that at any moment the
wandering Zach will up and leave, but now that he has proposed
she is beginning to question her hesitations.
For once in her life, things are going fantastically.
Her business is steady, her house is kitten free and back
to normal, and she is about to marry the man she loves, or is
she?
All hell breaks loose when she comes home
and finds a very sullen and intoxicated Zach needing to talk to
her. She believes he is about to break up with her, but she never
expected to hear he has a son—a son he never knew existed. Now
the disgruntled son, Bryce, is coming to live with them
following a cryptic note from his mother saying she is in danger
and cannot keep her son at her house.
Seventeen years ago, Zach had a drug
induced affair with a madam, Xandra, which ended bitterly when
she charged Zach with battery.
Zach swears he did push her around a bit, but never did
he break her arm and batter her face as she charged.
Can Cassidy trust his word, after he kept this a secret
for all this time? When
she accompanies Zach to Xandra’s house to discuss Bryce,
Xandra has been fatally beaten, and Zach becomes the prime
suspect. It is a race against time to find the real killer and prove
Zach’s innocence.
This time the mystery is a race against
time. For readers
who are fond of Zach, as I am, it is a more personal mystery.
I wanted to believe his innocence, but as the evidence
begins stacking up against him, it gets harder and harder to
believe he could not have done it.
The addition of Bryce, who despises Zach, adds
depth and a new sounding board for Cassidy who is trying hard to
keep her new family intact.
By far, WANTON’S WEB, is the most thrilling of the
series! Don’t
expect it all to be dark, Starshine, Cassidy’s feline friend,
takes an immediate liking to Bryce, and Cassidy finds herself
pushed to Starshine’s background, a situation for which
Cassidy was unprepared. Her
discussions with the finicky feline add humor, but once again
Gran’s zany wit and actions will have the reader laughing out
loud—breaking the tension of the mystery |
