Cassidy’s next-door-neighbor, Olivia Mallory, better known as "The Cat Lady", finally speaks to Cassidy and asks her to watch her cats during a business trip. Needless to say, Cassidy is shocked and willingly accepts the job in hopes of getting to know the secretive woman better. When Olivia begins acting flighty, scared and downright uncomfortable, the therapist nature of Cassidy’s kicks in, only Olivia will not talk about the mysterious man who has moved in with her. When Olivia is murdered and Cassidy meets the giant of an ex-con who has been living there, Cassidy is certain he is not the killer, even after he confesses.

Cassidy kicks into gear and begins another investigation—this time without hubby Zach’s help. Zach is too busy working undercover to bust a couple of crooked cops. Zach and Cassidy’s new marriage is strained as well. Zach is spending more time in his undercover role, whether at home or in the clubs. Cassidy is having a hard time keeping Zach and his new alter-ego separate, and she is not sure how much she can take of this new dark, ambitious druggie persona.

I have adored the previous books in this series, and while CAT’S CLAW still kept me on the edge of my seat, I hated Zach’s actions this time around. He was being a first class jerk, and I hope he makes it up to her in the next book!!

Characters are just as fresh and zany as ever! I was happy to see Zach’s new found son, Bryce, making regular appearances. I think Bryce is the dose of reality that Zach needs most. Cassidy’s grandmother is still a riot. I am glad to see her jumping in to help out, and would like to see Cassidy match her grandmother and Harve, the eighty-seven-year-old cat rescuer, together.
