Paranormal Romance
Lannes Hannelore is a gargoyle diguised
as a human thanks to a magical illusion. Lannes had once
been held prisoner by a witch and tortured, so now
prefers being alone and away from claustrophobic
situations on his island off the coast of Maine. When in
Chicago visiting and old and dear friend, he encounters
a young woman trying to steal his car. She's covered in
blood, barefoot, suffers from amnesia, and clearly in
need of assistance. Something about her touches Lannes
and brings him out of his isolation and he offers to
help her. With his psychic powers, Lannes determines
that the woman's memories have been severed from her
mind, and that the little she does remember is
true--that she awoke in a hotel room, covered in blood,
with three bodies on the floor--shot to death, with a
gun nearby, and with a note saying "Run". Who is this
strong yet vunerable woman who speaks to his heart and
soul like no other? Is she a cold-blooded killer? How
were her memories severed and who did it to her? Will
the answers they seek bring them together--or drive them
apart forever? With a little help from the Dirk & Steele
Agency, Lannes and Lethe set out on the wild road...
THE WILD ROAD is the latest book in Marjorie M. Liu's
Dirk & Steele paranormal romance series, and it's
superb. THE WILD ROAD is a "beauty and the beast" type
of story with the question who's the beauty and who's
the beast? Lannes is a wonderful hero, needy, lonely,
wanting to love and be loved, yet afraid to reveal his
gargoyle self in case others are repulsed. The way he
treats and speaks to Lethe and declares his love is
truly sigh-worthy. Liu's heroes and heroines endure so
much, and THE WILD ROAD is no exception...there's a lot
of violence which makes the happy ending even more
sweet. If you haven't read Liu's Dirk & Steele novels
before, then you're in for a fantastic reading
experience--and you can start with THE WILD ROAD without
any confusion at all. Highly recommended!
