Historical Romance
Once a spy for England in France, Sir
Douglas Drury had been captured and tortured by an evil
Frenchman. The same Frenchman who was responsible for
the deaths of many of Drury's friends. Drury took his
revenge and killed this man, and then returned to
England to begin life anew as a successful
barrister.
Unable to write, due to severe injuries to his hands,
Drury composed his court proceedings in his head with
long walks, walks that would sometimes take him into
dangerous areas of London. Set upon by thieves, Drury's
life is saved by a potato-throwing maiden. But not just
any maiden…a French maiden. Disgusted by all that is
French, Drury left the maiden alone….but one of Drury's
unknown enemies will not.
Juliette Bergerine may have saved the nobleman from
death, but her sacrifice was not appreciated. Yet,
however angry she may feel, when she is beset upon by
someone intent on using her to hurt Drury, she quickly
realizes that her life is in danger and Drury her only
hope of salvation.
Now, the two must discover the unknown enemy. And Drury
will learn to put aside his biased view of the
French…but will he allow himself to love?
A nice read, Juliette was a mix of helpless and
self-sufficient. Interesting in character and thought,
she is a suitable heroine. Drury is the typical arrogant
aristocrat at first, but soon shows his more earthy
side. The pair are interesting, but the attraction
between them could have been more explosive. Still, a
very pleasant read.
