Paige Carson, actress, is currently
trying to finish "Code Red," a film which should help
the public forget her recent run of flops. She did
everything she could to land the lead female role.
Unfortunately, her male co-star, Jackson Rolfe, has
managed to make her life miserable. She soon found out
he was an egotistical actor who treated her like a
bimbo. Paige tried to remind herself he was a Golden
Globe award winner and was nominated for Best Actor in
the upcoming Academy Awards. After all, she is a Oscar
winner herself. However, before the movie was finished,
she decided she couldn't take it any longer and walked
off the set.
Nathan, her agent, smoothed things over and the movie
was eventually completed. When contemplating her next
project, Paige decides she doesn't want to do any more
commercials, TV pilots or movies. When he mentions a
Shakespeare play opening in London, she decides her life
has to take a different direction, and accepts the
offer.
As an American actress in London, Paige isn't quite
prepared for the theatrical life. Used to an entourage
of a housekeeper, cook, guru, publicist, etc., she finds
London life a bit of a change. She actually has to walk
to the theater for rehearsals. Is Paige a diva? Yes.
Will this life change be something she can handle? She
thinks so, after all, her best friend, Davinia, who
lives in England, convinced her she made the best career
choice. This job is just what she needs.
If you are looking for a light summer read, this novel
fits the bill. You may have a difficult time relating to
Paige. The author does have the sensitivity to allow her
character to "mature" further into the storyline.
Actually, the latter part of the story redeems the whole
book; it is unfortunate more emphasis couldn't have been
made toward developing the characters which appeared in
this section. It may have been a more interesting read.
